Yarra Ranges Council
Recreation and Open Space Strategy
We assisted Yarra Ranges Council with the development of a new Recreation and Open Space Strategy (ROSS) that creates a sense of place and improved health and wellness outcomes for all Yarra Ranges residents and visitors.
The objective of the project was to create an open space network that sets Yarra Ranges apart, entices residents to settle and raise families, and supports universal access to physical activity, nature and the environment.
The methodology for this project involved:
- Detailed analysis of population and demographic data to understand the current and future recreation and open space needs of the community.
- An extensive stakeholder engagement process, including 1,200 survey responses, 80 consultations and 11 community forums to understand the recreation and open space interest.
- Development of a net community benefit model that valued the health, social and environmental impacts of open space for the community, to assist in guiding investment and prioritisation.
The final outcome was a ROSS to guide the enhancement of its open space network which will entice residents to settle and raise families, and live healthy, active lifestyles among nature and the environment.
